Mrs Heather Johns

Heather is passionate about leaving a positive mark on the world. She started her career as a nurse and, when her own child began to show developmental delay, she decided to create a nursery where every child could make great progress, regardless of their starting point, developmental or environmental challenges.

Robins Nursery was the first of The Birds Nursery Group where Heather was owner manager for 13 years before passing the Manager’s role to another and embarking on the creating and managing Wagtails Nursery in 2018.  Building on the success and inspiration of working within a school environment, She has since opened Woodpeckers Nursery, Starlings Nursery and shortly, Buntings Nursery, all within Primary Schools.

Heather believes in the importance of a good early years’ experience to create foundations from which to build the rest of a child’s life. The poem “Children learn by what they live” by Dorothy Law Note is the inspiration behind all her nurseries. “If a child lives with approval, he learns to like himself” . She believes this is key to how to build happy, confident, interested, caring children who can grow into fulfilled, peaceful, knowledgeable, thoughtful, engaged members of society.
Her ongoing professional qualifications are part of the continuous endeavour to provide the best possible service to the children and parents who join us. Heather is readily available to discuss your child or any concerns as she understands how wonderful and yet tough it can be as a parent. She loves interacting with the children and is often found on the playroom floor engaging in play.

Mrs Maureen Henrick

Mo worked alongside Heather to help set up her Wagtails Nursery as the second nursery in The Birds Nursery Group. She now works across all the nurseries providing support and guidance for our teams.

She has worked extensively in both nursery and primary school settings. This means that she understands the importance of a smooth transition into school life and the skills your child requires to enjoy the next steps in their life. She loves to really get to know the children under her wing and encourages them to become involved in her own enthusiastic attitude towards healthy eating and varied exercise.

She has completed her Foundation Degree in Early Years and believes that ongoing commitment to personal and professional development is key to ensuring she is being a reflective practitioner and good role model for the children.
